Porcelain Laminates are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that are custom fabricated in a laboratory and then bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and natural smile. The laminates are very strong so with proper care they will look beautiful for years and the conservative technique requires very little tooth preparation. Dr. Giordano routinely uses porcelain laminates as a way to make cosmetic changes to teeth that have been heavily restored or are discolored, worn, chipped, or misaligned.
Before doing laminates, we generally schedule a consultation appointment to discuss the patient’s individual needs and expectations for his or her smile. At this appointment, models of the teeth are taken and sent to our lab where a wax – mock-up – of the laminates is created according to our instructions. In a follow up appointment we sit with the patient and review the case with the “before” and “after” models in hand. This way, before the teeth are even touched, the patient has a very good idea what the final result will look like.
